Cameron's Bakery

A Selkirk baker's that makes the town's own Selkirk Bannock, a round loaf rich with butter and sultanas.

Welcome

If you bring one thing home from Selkirk, make it a Selkirk Bannock, and Cameron's has been a baker's in the town for more than seventy years.

Queen Victoria is said to have taken a slice with her tea at Abbotsford, on a visit to Scott's granddaughter, and the bannock's good name grew with the tale. Selkirk Distillers, the town's gin makers, buy their bannocks here for their Bannock Gin, which takes twelve weeks to make. By their account, a classic bannock is all about patience, with a long rise and an unhurried bake that leave a thin, crisp crust over a soft crumb. There's more than bannocks on the counter, with pies and rolls to take on a walk round the Haining loch. The shop is a couple of minutes' walk from the Market Place, and it has no website, so simply call in.
