An Caisteal

A Munro of 996 metres above Glen Falloch near Crianlarich, climbed from the A82 by Sron Gharbh and the Twistin Hill ridge.

Welcome

An Caisteal, 996 metres, stands above Glen Falloch near Crianlarich, in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

It is not the An Caisteal of Ben Loyal. Beinn a' Chroin, the next Munro along the ridge, is about a kilometre to the south-east, and Beinn Chabhair and Cruach Ardrain are not far off. Below, the old Caledonian pines of Glen Falloch stand out on the broken ground of the glen.

The park authority pairs An Caisteal with Beinn a' Chroin and calls the two a more challenging walk, for confident hillwalkers who can read a map. Deer management and farming may be going on, and no avalanche forecast covers the hill, which under snow is no sign there is no risk. Choose a day with a good forecast, and carry a map, a compass and warm clothes.
