Ben More, Crianlarich
The pyramid above Crianlarich, 1,174 metres high, climbed up steep slopes from Benmore Farm.
Ben More is the towering pyramid you see from miles around Crianlarich, 1,174 metres high and the sixteenth highest mountain in Scotland, often seen alongside its near neighbour Stob Binnein, which is almost as tall.
Its name means simply the big hill.
It is a hard climb. The usual route starts on the shore of Loch Iubhair, follows the road to Benmore Farm and then goes straight up the relentlessly steep slopes of the north-west side to the summit; there and back is about seven and a half miles, with 1,335 metres of climbing, and can take most of a day. Stronger walkers go on to Stob Binnein, and there are longer approaches from Inverlochlarig in the south or round the Allt Coire Chaorach. The reward on a clear day is a view over the whole of the southern Highlands.
