Glasgow Science Centre on a wet day
Glasgow

Glasgow Science Centre – Hands-on Science by the Clyde

A few hours.

The route

Glasgow Science Centre sits in its silver, shell-shaped building on the south bank of the Clyde, and on a wet day it's one of the best places in the city for children.

Three floors of hands-on exhibits keep all ages busy, with a planetarium and live science shows besides. Lifts link every floor and there's baby changing throughout, so it's an easy morning with a buggy.

Before you go

  1. Book accommodation nearby

If you are staying over: here are ours nearest where the day starts and ends.

The nearest of ours is Moment Blythswood Street, a mile away. Sleeps 2.

  2. Book Glasgow Science Centre and Planetarium

Book Glasgow Science Centre's day tickets online for a weekend or the school holidays: from the end of August to late March it opens Wednesday to Friday 10am to 3pm and weekends 10am to 5pm, and is shut Mondays and Tuesdays outside the holidays.

The day

A morning on the Science Mall's three floors, with a planetarium show if the children are old enough to sit through one.

    An attraction

Glasgow Science Centre stands on Pacific Quay, on the south bank of the Clyde, with its own car park beside it. Visitors pay £4 to park for the day, as long as they show the car park ticket at the ticket desk inside, as the machine in the car park can't give that rate. From the end of August to late March it opens Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and at weekends from 10am to 5pm, and every day in the school holidays; outside the holidays it's shut on Mondays and Tuesdays. Day tickets are £15.50 for adults and £12 for children aged 3 to 15 at the time of writing, with under-3s free. The Science Mall's three floors are packed with hands-on exhibits, and a planetarium show is £3.50 more. There's a café inside for lunch. Lifts link the floors and are kept for buggies and wheelchairs first, so there can be a short wait at busy times. Toilets and baby changing are on the ground, second and third floors, and there's a Changing Places toilet. Only assistance dogs can come in. Over Christmas and New Year, check before going.

If it rains

It's all indoors: the only wet part is the walk from the car park.
