The route
The Arran Heritage Museum is a little cluster of whitewashed buildings at Rosaburn, just north of Brodick.
It's an old croft and smiddy, or smithy, with a furnished cottage, a 1940s schoolroom, the island's old post office counter and a forge with its anvil and tools. Children can climb on Tommy's red tractor outside, and lunch is in the museum's own Café Rosaburn. It's an easy morning, and a good one when the weather turns.

An attraction
The museum is on the shore road at Rosaburn, and the 324 bus stops opposite. It's open every day from March to October, 10.30am to 4.30pm, with last entry at 4pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children, £4 for seniors and £10 for a family. Inside the old buildings are a box-bed cottage, the smiddy's forge, the schoolroom and displays on the island's archaeology and geology. Ask at reception for the children's quiz; outside there are riverside gardens, a play hut and Tommy's red tractor to climb on. Ring 01770 302636 to ask about access for a wheelchair.

Café Rosaburn
Lunch
Café Rosaburn is in the museum grounds, open from 10.30am to 3.30pm and shut on Mondays. It does light lunches, daily specials, soup and a cake stand of home baking, with tables outside by the gardens. On a Monday, or if it's full, the Wineport at Cladach is about 17 minutes' walk further north and serves food every day from noon, or bring a picnic for the riverside gardens.

Most of the museum is indoors, in the cottage, the smiddy and the exhibition rooms, and the café has tables inside.
