The day
Pitlochry
A whisky morning on the edge of Pitlochry, then lunch among the town's stone buildings.

Blair Athol Distillery
A tour
Blair Athol's stone buildings stand thick with ivy on the southern edge of Pitlochry, and the distillery still draws its water from the Allt Dour burn that gave it its first name, Aldour. Its malt goes into Bell's, and there's a 12-year-old of its own. The Signature Tour, made for anyone new to whisky or short on time, gives an overview of how it's made, with three drams at the end and a memento to take home. Anyone driving can take the drams away in a take-away pack. The Mash Tun Bar pours tasting flights and single drams for anyone not on a tour, and the shop sells exclusive whiskies and limited-edition bottles.

The Old Mill Inn
Lunch
The Old Mill Inn is a stone inn on Mill Lane in the middle of Pitlochry, set back from Atholl Road behind the main parade of shops. The menu runs from Buckie haddock and chips to a cold fish sharing platter of salmon, with a daily specials board and roasts on Sundays until they sell out. There are four real ales on tap, and tables are given out on arrival rather than booked.
If it rains
The tour and lunch are both indoors.
