Dunkeld – A Sauna by the Tay and Lunch at the Taybank
A few hours.
The route
Braan Sauna is the Taybank's wood-fired riverside sauna on the bank of the Tay in Dunkeld, a warm place on a cold day with friends.
Lunch follows indoors at the Taybank.
Before you go
Book accommodation nearby
If you are staying over: here are ours nearest where the day starts and ends.
Book a private Braan Sauna session on the Taybank's website: it costs £90 for a group of up to eight for 1 hour 20 minutes, everyone in the sauna must be 17 or over, and only cancellations made at least 48 hours ahead are refunded.
The day
Dunkeld
Heat and cold by the river, then a warm lunch indoors.

Braan Sauna
Park in the Tay Terrace car park beside the Taybank. The cedar-lined sauna is warmed by a wood-fired stove, with wide windows over the Tay to Telford's bridge and Birnam Hill. Outside are a cold plunge tank six feet across, a bucket shower and a fire pit. Bring swimwear, a towel and sandals. Sessions inside run no longer than 20 minutes at a time. The cold plunge is at your own risk and needs a capable swimmer, so ask your GP first if you have a medical condition. Keep out of the river itself.

The Taybank
Lunch
Lunch is in the Taybank itself, in the bar on weekdays and in the bar and the upstairs restaurant at weekends. The menu changes with the seasons: vegetables, fruit and salad come from its own walled garden nearby, and meat from Scottish producers. The kitchen can cook gluten-free and vegan dishes. Book a table or just walk in. Dogs are welcome in the bar and the restaurant.
If it rains
Lunch is indoors, and the sauna is a wooden cabin with a stove.
