Dinner in Sutherland is a good reason to stay the night. In Lochinver, a family-run restaurant on the harbour front is known for scallops, mussels and creel-caught langoustines. At Kylesku, an inn by the old ferry slipway serves local seafood and croft-reared meat, with a bar of single malts looking over Loch Glendhu. Its sister hotel up the road at Unapool runs a shuttle down to dinner. In Dornoch, the old bishop's palace has a restaurant over its walled garden, and Golspie has a coaching inn of 1808. Tables are few, so book ahead from spring to autumn.
