Perthshire

Mills, libraries and old battles.

Perthshire's history is full of surprises. Visit Scotland's first free public lending library, founded in the seventeenth century, or a working watermill on a site milled since the 1590s. At Killiecrankie, a soldier is said to have leapt across the river in a narrow gorge to escape. There's the museum of Scotland's oldest Highland regiment in Perth and the story of the Pitlochry dam. Most are small and easy to fit into a day out, and perfect when it rains.

You are up to date.
