No 1 Bistro

The bistro of Mackays Hotel in Wick, whose door is the only address on the world's shortest street, cooking Highland produce for lunch and dinner by the river.

Welcome

The No 1 Bistro has what may be the most unusual address in Britain: its door is the only one on Ebenezer Place, the end wall of Mackays Hotel in Wick, which at just over two metres long is counted the shortest street in the world.

Inside, the dining room is bright and comfortable, and open to everyone, not only guests of the hotel. The kitchen cooks with Highland produce and has worked with the same suppliers for years: smoked fish from Caithness, venison, and fish landed at Scrabster for light, crisp fish and chips. There is soup of the day, pakora and platters of cured meat and cheese to start, sea bass, lobster or venison loin to follow, and sticky toffee pudding or a warm crumble to finish.

It serves lunch and dinner every day, by the river in the middle of the town. Ring ahead to book a table.
