Mackays Hotel

A family-run hotel of thirty rooms in the centre of Wick, beside the river, with a bistro on the world's shortest street, a bar and afternoon tea.

Welcome

On a corner by the river in the middle of Wick, a tall sandstone building with its name on the wall has been welcoming travellers for generations.

Mackays Hotel has been run by the same family for more than seventy years, and it makes a base for Caithness and the top of the North Coast 500.

There are thirty rooms, from singles to family rooms and larger superior rooms, and dogs are welcome in some of them. Downstairs, the bar serves a dram or a local beer, and the No 1 Bistro, open to everyone, cooks Highland produce, from Caithness smoked fish to local vegetables, for lunch and dinner, with afternoon tea too.

The bistro has a claim to fame: its door is the only address on Ebenezer Place, the short end of the hotel, which Guinness counts as the shortest street in the world. It is just over two metres long.
