Bord de l'Eau

A French restaurant beside the river in Wick, run by its French chef, open for dinner at the end of the week, with dishes such as duck, lamb, pheasant and frogs' legs.

Welcome

Beside the river in Wick, on Market Street, a small restaurant with a French name cooks the food of France in the far north of Scotland.

Bord de l'Eau means the water's edge, and the river runs past the door.

It is a personal place, run by its French chef, Daniel, who likes to come out of the kitchen at the end of the evening to see how everyone has eaten. The cooking is traditional and generous: a rich fish soup with croutons, frogs' legs with lemon, and duck, lamb, steak and pheasant with their sauces.

The dining room is simple and warm, painted yellow, with pine chairs and tables laid for dinner. It opens in the evenings from Thursday to Saturday, and it is popular, so ring ahead to book a table.
