The Isle of Skye Baking Company is a family bakery in Portree, started in 2007 by Barry and Liza Hawthorne to make shortbread and oatcakes on the island.

It has grown since into a full bakery, making bread, cakes, scones and preserves among much else, with everything made in-house and the range changing with what is fresh.

You will find the bakes at farmers' markets each weekend, Inverness among them, and on Somerled Square in the middle of Portree every Thursday, and they go quickly, so come early. The bakery also makes packed lunches, for one person or a whole tour group, which can be booked in advance; bus tours are asked to book early, as the lunches are much in demand. It is a good way to stock up before a day on the hills of Trotternish or the Cuillin, or to take a taste of the island home.
