Inverlussa

A hamlet by a sandy bay at the mouth of the Lussa River in the north-east of Jura, with tea on the beach in summer.

Welcome

Inverlussa is a small hamlet in the north-east of Jura, where the Lussa River runs out into a sandy bay, far up the island's one road, which runs north from Craighouse past Lagg and Tarbert.

A side road just north of the Lussa River bridge takes you down to it: a few white cottages along the shore, a river mouth with boats pulled up on the grass, and a bay that the island's own guide counts one of the best on Jura for swimming. In summer there is tea on the beach.

On the way in, the road passes the old graveyard at Kilchianaig, where Mary MacCrain lies, said to have died in 1856 at the age of 128. Further north the road goes on through the steadings at Ardlussa towards the wild north end of the island. The local bus from Feolin runs by Craighouse, Knockrome and Lagg to Inverlussa.

Before you go

Follow the island road north from Craighouse past Lagg and Tarbert, and take the side road just north of the Lussa River bridge.

The 456 bus from Feolin runs to Inverlussa.
