The Highlanders Bakehouse

A family bakery by the Balmoral road at Crathie, built where the garage once stood.

Welcome

The Highlanders Bakehouse started at home.

The family live at Crathie, on the Deeside road a mile or so from Balmoral, and where their garage once stood there is now a bakery and takeaway café in one, with the ovens going behind the counter.

It is the kind of stop that walkers and drivers heading up Deeside learn to plan around: fresh bread, rolls and a counter of bakery goodies, good coffee to take away, and something for the flask and the hill. The shelves also carry a choice of local and Scottish products. The bakery's success led to a second shop, on Invercauld Road in Braemar, packed with the same bread and bakes for the top end of the valley.

Opening times change with the seasons and with how busy the day is, and the family post updates on their social pages, so it is worth a look before a special trip. Balmoral, Crathie Kirk and the paths into the hills around Lochnagar are all close by.
