Eastside

Five cottages in the old buildings of a working hill farm in the Pentland Hills, close to Edinburgh, with a wood-fired sauna on the farm.

Welcome

A cow shed, a hay shed, a cart shed, a wash house and a new timber cabin, on a farm the Cowans have worked for five generations.

Eastside is a working hill farm in the Pentland Hills Regional Park, farmed by the Cowan family for five generations, with Scottish Blackface sheep on the heather hills. Its 18th-century farm buildings have been turned into places to stay. Two are award-winning conversions by Studio IMA, the Cartshed and the Wash House, and there's a new timber cabin, the Woodshed, with its own hot tub. The Byre and the Steading are family cottages with log fires. There are miles of walking from the door and views all the way to the Highland hills, and after a day out there's a wood-fired sauna on the farm. It's a mile up a farm track, and yet Edinburgh is close.

So close to Edinburgh, but far enough away to feel like a different world.

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
