An Lanntair
Stornoway's arts centre on the seafront, with a gallery, a cinema, a 200-seat theatre and a café bar, open since 2005.
An Lanntair is Stornoway's arts centre, a bright modern building on Kenneth Street, looking over the harbour and a few steps from the bus station.
It opened in October 2005, after a ten-year campaign, and it has become a hub for the arts across the Outer Hebrides, with a gallery of contemporary art, a cinema, a shop and a theatre and concert hall seating 200. Exhibitions change through the year, so there's always something new on the gallery walls, and the stage hosts music, theatre and dance. Every autumn it's home to Faclan, the Hebridean Book Festival. The café bar, with its tall windows over the harbour, serves coffee and cake from ten and food from noon, which makes it a good place to land on a wet afternoon in town. It stays open late from Thursday to Saturday, and there's a large public car park right beside it on South Beach Street.
