Across the border to Holy Island and Alnwick Castle, a day in Northumberland from Edinburgh.

This day takes you over the border into Northumberland. The first stop is Holy Island, Lindisfarne, reached by a causeway the tide covers twice a day, with its priory ruins and castle on the rock. Then it's on to Alnwick, where the castle stood in for Hogwarts in the early Harry Potter films and the Alnwick Garden has its famous Grand Cascade. On the way home you stop at Flodden Field, where the Scots lost one of the bloodiest battles in their history. It runs every day from April to October and you're back in Edinburgh at about 6.15pm.
