St Andrews and the fishing villages of the East Neuk, a gentle coastal day from Edinburgh.

Fife is just across the Forth from Edinburgh, and this is a day of harbours, sea air and old stone. You cross the Forth Bridge and follow the coast past Aberdour to Anstruther, then on through the East Neuk villages of Pittenweem, St Monans and Crail. Lunch is in St Andrews, with time to see the cathedral ruins, the castle and the famous Old Course. On the way home there's a photo stop at Falkland and a last look at the bridges from South Queensferry. You're back in Edinburgh by 5.45pm.
