Dinners worth planning for.

Eating out can be one of the highlights of a trip to Skye. There are restaurants in old hunting lodges and Victorian mansions with views across the sound, small dining rooms above the harbour where the chef cooks what was landed that day, and relaxed inns serving small plates of local produce. Seafood is the star, from oysters and langoustines to scallops and crab, but you'll find superb lamb, venison and vegetables too. Tables are few and summer is busy, so book well ahead, especially for dinner.

Three Chimneys.

Looking to splurge on an unforgettable meal? This is the place. Michelin stars and AA rosettes have both swirled around this gold, five-star restaurant with rooms: in 2020 it was even named Scotland’s best dining experience. Head chef Scott Davies combines “the finest techniques of ancient Nordic and haute Scottish cuisine”, which translates into the likes of Wester Ross BBQ salmon, or smoked haddock raviolo. Edinbane Lodge was the first restaurant in the Highlands of Scotland to be awarded four AA rosettes.

The award came in 2022, only four years after the old building on the road between Portree and Dunvegan was restored. It began life in the sixteenth century as a hunting lodge, and it was brought back in 2018 as a restaurant with rooms. The tasting menu is built on what the island's growers, crofters and fishermen bring in. In 2023 the Lodge was named Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Excellence Awards.
