Culloden Moor and Tain's pilgrims.

The museums here go deep into Highland history. On Culloden Moor, the National Trust for Scotland's visitor centre tells the story of the battle of 1746 that ended the last Jacobite Rising, with an immersion theatre and the battlefield itself to walk. In Inverness, by the castle hill, the museum and art gallery covers archaeology, Jacobite relics, natural history and art, and has a café. Up in Easter Ross, Tain's museum sits in the grounds of St Duthus Collegiate Church, telling of the saint, the medieval pilgrims and King James IV. Allow a half day at Culloden, and wrap up for the moor.

That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
