Fife

Old houses, standing stones and a secret bunker.

Fife's history goes back a very long way, and you can see it in all sorts of places. There are Bronze Age standing stones towering over a golf course, the oldest house in Dunfermline, an eighteenth-century harbourmaster's house on the shore, and a museum telling the story of golf right beside the Old Course. Then there's the Cold War command centre hidden a hundred feet beneath an ordinary-looking farmhouse, which is every bit as surprising as it sounds. Most are easy to pair with a walk or lunch nearby, and several make a good choice for a rainy day.

That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
