Braemar: What's Braemar known for

Braemar is best known for the Highland Games held each September, watched regularly by members of the royal family and often regarded as the most prestigious in Scotland. The event takes place at The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park and draws thousands, but the village remains calm for most of the year.

It’s also known as a hub for walkers and winter sports. Surrounded by Munros and remote glens, Braemar is one of the main gateways to the Cairngorms plateau. Nearby summits include Morrone, Ben Avon, Beinn a’ Bhùird and Lochnagar. In winter, Glenshee Ski Centre is just up the road, offering skiing and snowboarding when conditions allow.

The village also has strong historical associations, including Braemar Castle and its Jacobite links, and the 17th-century Invercauld Estate, which still manages large parts of the surrounding land.
