Braemar: Getting around

Braemar lies on the A93, about 60 miles west of Aberdeen. It’s reached by road via Ballater and the South Deeside or North Deeside routes. The road continues south over the Cairnwell Pass, the highest main road in the UK, to Glenshee and Blairgowrie.

There’s no train service, and public transport is limited to a regular Stagecoach bus linking Braemar to Ballater and Aberdeen. In winter, services can be delayed or disrupted due to snow. Most visitors arrive by car and stay for a few days to explore locally.

Within the village, everything is walkable. Paths lead from the centre up surrounding hills, into glens, and along the river. Bikes are useful for reaching trailheads or exploring quieter back roads. In winter, snow and ice can affect driving conditions and outdoor access.
