A Viking hoard unearthed in a Galloway field by Scottish metal detectorist Derek McLennan has travelled halfway around the world.

Discovered in 2014, the treasure includes gold, silver, a rare Anglo-Saxon cross, silk-wrapped artefacts, and even a Persian vessel, revealing the vast trade routes of the Viking world.

McLennan found it using a metal detector made in Adelaide. The hoard is now on show at the South Australian Museum, in the same city.
