At One with the Mountains - An interview with Nick Gardner
Issue 6: Nick Gardner and his wife Janet were living an idyllic life on a croft…

A Munro of 1,039 metres, number 94 of the 282.
Beinn Achaladair stands in the hills above Bridge of Orchy and Loch Tulla, on the boundary of Argyll and Bute and Perth and Kinross.
It has close company up there. Beinn an Dothaidh is to the south-west, Beinn a' Chreachain to the east and Beinn Mhanach to the south-east, all within about four kilometres, and Beinn Dorain is a little further off to the south.
Nearby, an old drove road sets out for Rannoch from the north-east corner of Loch Tulla, following the farm road to Achallader farm.
West wind to 14 mph, gusting 28
Rain, about 2 mm
Light from 7.52am to 6.16pm, ten hours
A weather model's forecast for the height of the summit, not a report from the hill. Starting from the A82, 4km north of Bridge of Orchy at the northeast corner of Loch Tulla, a ScotWays sign indicates this old route to Rannoch initially follows the farm road northeast to Achallader farm where there is parking.ScotWays, the rights of way charity, on the old drove road to Rannoch
Under snow and ice this is a different day, with short light and the risk of avalanche. It needs an ice axe, crampons, winter boots and the skill to use them.
The summit is optional. Turning back is the right decision whenever the cloud, the wind or the light say so.
