Ulva Farm Walk

The shortest waymarked walk on Ulva, 3.75km round the farm, Ulva House, the walled garden and Telford's church.

Welcome

The farm walk is the shortest and simplest of the waymarked walks on Ulva, the community-owned island across a narrow sound from Mull's west coast: a circuit of 3.75km, about an hour, on rough tracks linking the ferry jetty and the Boathouse with the farm, Ulva House and the church.

The circuit takes in the Boathouse, Sheila's Cottage and Ulva House, whose walled garden, behind big old trees, is being restored by volunteers. It follows the shore past the farm cottage and old outbuildings to the church, built to a design by Thomas Telford in 1828 to hold 300, a reminder of how many once lived here: 570 in 1841, before the island was cleared.
