Ayrshire, Isle of Arran
Burns Monument
Introduction
Built in memoriam to Ayrshire’s son and the Scottish bard, the Burns Monument is found near Alloway, where Burns was born. Standing at 70 feet high, it was built shortly after his death in the Grecian style. Completed in 1823 with funds from more than 700 donors, it now offers beautiful views over the Brig o’ Doon and the River Doon.
