On the wide High Street of Biggar, the Biggar Bookshop is an independent bookshop with a smart blue shopfront and a window full of new titles.
Many will remember it by its old name, Atkinson-Pryce Books.
Inside, the shelves hold a well-chosen range of fiction and non-fiction, with plenty for children, and the staff will happily order anything that is not in stock. The shop sells gift vouchers, offers audiobooks, and runs a programme of events with authors through the year.
It opens from Monday to Saturday, from ten until five. Biggar is a handsome old market town, and the bookshop is a good reason to stop, with the Falls of Clyde not far away to the west.
