Corrieshalloch Gorge
An attraction
Corrieshalloch is a deep box canyon about a mile long, where the River Droma drops through the 150-foot Falls of Measach on its way to Loch Broom. Park at the National Trust for Scotland's visitor centre on the A832, a short way west of Braemore Junction, where the car park charges. A short, steep path leads down to the suspension bridge of 1874, designed by Sir John Fowler, who went on to help design the Forth Bridge. It sways a little, the gorge falls away some 200 feet below, and only six people may cross at once. Beyond it, a platform reaches out over the gorge towards the falls, and on the way back a loop along the south side leads to another viewpoint. The paths are treacherous after rain, so keep children and dogs close. The bridge can close at short notice for checks and repairs: look at the Trust's page before going.

The Dipping Lugger
Lunch
Lunch is back in Ullapool at the Dipping Lugger, 22 minutes' drive down Loch Broom. It's the old manse on West Shore Street, first built in 1789 and rebuilt as the parish manse by Thomas Telford in 1829, and now a restaurant with rooms, with three AA Rosettes and a place in the Michelin Guide. Lunch is one tasting menu, served at 12.30pm from Thursday to Saturday; the sample menu is £70 a head, with a drinks pairing at £50 or a non-alcoholic one at £35. The kitchen can't cater for vegan, dairy-free or gluten-free diets, or nut allergies. Park in Ullapool, at the Highland Council car park on Latheron Lane.
If it rains
After heavy rain the gorge is at its best, with mist drifting along it; lunch is indoors.
