The Nevis Range Gondola – Mountain Views and Lunch

A few hours.

Directions

The route

The UK's only mountain gondola climbs 550 metres up Aonach Mòr in about fifteen minutes, from the forest at Torlundy to a top station looking over Loch Linnhe, Loch Eil and the hills of Ardgour and Moidart.

Up there, easy paths lead to two viewpoints, and 10 minutes down the road the Highland Soap Company's Larder Café is a warm, friendly place for lunch. Dogs are welcome.

Before you go

  1. Book accommodation nearby

If you are staying over: here are ours nearest where the day starts and ends.

The nearest of ours is Woodlands Glencoe, 11 miles away. Sleeps 2.

  2. Book Nevis Range Mountain Resort

Book gondola tickets online with Nevis Range or buy them at the ticket office at the base, £28.95 for an adult and £14.95 for 5 to 17s in 2026: in early winter the first cabin goes up at 9.30am and the last comes down at 4pm, and the gondola can close without notice in high wind, so check the mountain report on the morning.

The day

Aonach Mòr

Fifteen minutes in a cabin over the forest, a walk to a viewpoint, then lunch a few minutes down the road.

    An attraction

Nevis Range is at Torlundy on the A82, and the day car park at the base station is £6. Buy gondola tickets online or at the ticket office: £28.95 for an adult and £14.95 for 5 to 17s in 2026. In early winter the first cabin goes up at 9.30am and the last comes down at 4pm, and the times change with the daylight. The six-seat cabins take about 15 minutes to climb from 100 metres to the top station at 650 metres, over the forest on the north face of Aonach Mòr. From the top, two easy paths lead to viewpoints: Sgurr Finnisg-aig, about 45 minutes there and back, and Meall Beag, about an hour. It's far colder and windier up there than at the base station, so bring warm, waterproof layers and good shoes. The Snowgoose Café at the top station serves hot drinks while the gondola runs. Dogs ride the gondola on a lead. The gondola shuts in high wind and can close without notice, so check the mountain report before you set off.

    The Larder Café

    The Larder Café

    Lunch

It's 10 minutes' drive towards Fort William to the Larder Café in the Highland Soap Company's visitor centre, which serves brunch, lunch and afternoon tea made with local produce and ingredients from its own garden. Dogs are welcome and parking is free. It's open 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4.30pm on Sundays, and busy at lunchtime.

If it rains

In low cloud or rain there's little to see from the top, and in high wind the gondola won't run: go straight to the Larder Café and the soap workshop window, and keep the gondola for a clear day.
