The Wildcat – Vegan Breakfast and the Sair Feet Statue
A few hours, from Fort William station and back.
The route
The Wildcat is a small, friendly café on Fort William's High Street, and everything on its menu happens to be vegan, from the toasts and wraps to the cakes and the hot chocolate.
A few minutes further down the street, a bronze walker sits on a bench rubbing his sore feet at the end of the West Highland Way. It's a lovely slow start to a day in town.

Breakfast
Start with breakfast at the Wildcat, 6 minutes' walk from the station at 21 High Street. It opens every day at 8am, and everything is vegan, though people who eat anything come back for the speciality coffee, the loose-leaf tea and the cooking: toasts, wraps, cakes and hot chocolate. You don't need to book, but it fills up at busy times, so come early for a window table.
5 min on foot

The end of the West Highland Way
It's 5 minutes' walk on down the High Street from the Wildcat to Gordon Square, at the far end. Here a bronze walker sits on a bench, boots on and rubbing one sore foot, beside the sign that welcomes walkers to the end of the West Highland Way. Most people take five to eight days to walk the 96 miles from Milngavie, on the edge of Glasgow, so you may see someone finishing. The square is open at all hours, paved and flat. It's 10 minutes' walk back to the station.
If it rains
On a wet morning, linger over breakfast at the Wildcat and keep the walk to Gordon Square short: it's 5 minutes down the High Street, and the statue is worth a look in any weather.
