For anyone who wants to stand under the Glenfinnan Viaduct, with Glencoe on the way there.

This is the day for fans of the Harry Potter films, and for anyone who simply wants to see the West Highlands at their most dramatic. From Edinburgh you head north past Callander to Glencoe for a photo stop among the mountains, then on to Fort William for lunch. The highlight is Glenfinnan, where you have time to walk to the viewpoint over the viaduct and down to the monument on the shore of Loch Shiel. Pitlochry is the stop on the way home. There are two departure times, and either way it's close to a twelve-hour day with a lot of it on the coach, so bring a book for the motorway.
