Perthshire
Highland whisky in the hills.
Perthshire has been making whisky for a very long time, and a visit to one of its distilleries is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There's an ivy-clad distillery on the edge of Pitlochry that's been working since the eighteenth century, and the Aberfeldy home of a famous whisky family, with an exhibition telling their story. Tours show you every step from barley to bottle, and finish, of course, with a dram. Book ahead in summer, and if you're driving, ask about a taste to take home.
