Wood-fired at Achmore, plated in Tarbert.
The restaurants of Lewis and Harris are small and personal, run by people who love what they cook. Beside the road at Achmore, in the middle of Lewis, a pizza kiosk in a bright blue shipping container stretches its dough by hand. It bakes each pizza in a wood-fired oven until the crust blisters, and you order at the hatch. Down in Tarbert, a small restaurant makes every table a chef's table. You eat in the kitchen while the chef cooks an eight-course tasting menu and tells you where each dish came from. Tarbert's tables go by booking only, so reserve well ahead.

That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
