Gardens by the sea.
Skye might be famous for its wild landscapes, but it has some lovely gardens too, sheltered by woodland and warmed by the Gulf Stream. Wander through woodland gardens around the ruins of a clan seat, formal gardens beside a castle that's still lived in, or a walled kitchen garden brought back to life by an island community. They're at their best from late spring, when the rhododendrons are out, through to the end of summer. Most come with a café nearby and make a peaceful break from the busier sights.
