Getting around
2 minute read

Inverness is the main transport hub for the entire Highland region. Inverness Airport, located a few miles east of the city, has connections to London, other UK cities, and Europe, with a regular bus service into the city centre. Inverness train station and bus station are conveniently located next to each other in the city centre, with services running to Aberdeen, the central belt, and the scenic lines to Kyle of Lochalsh and the far north.
On foot The city centre of Inverness is compact and best explored on foot. The riverside walks and main shopping areas are all easily accessible. To visit the surrounding attractions such as Culloden, Loch Ness, and Urquhart Castle, a car is the most convenient option. Alternatively, numerous local tour operators run bus trips from the city centre to all the major sites.
Public Transport Stagecoach operates the local bus network in and around Inverness. Regular services run from the city centre to Culloden Battlefield and other nearby points of interest. Buses also run along the length of Loch Ness, providing a useful service for walkers and those wishing to visit the main villages and attractions along the loch.
Driving & Parking Driving in the city centre can be busy, with a one-way system in place. There are several large multi-storey and surface car parks, including the Rose Street Car Park, which are convenient for the city centre. Parking at out-of-town attractions like Culloden and Urquhart Castle is readily available but is often pay-and-display.
