Free museums, and plenty of them.

Glasgow's museums are wonderful, and most of them are free. There's the great red sandstone museum in Kelvingrove Park, a zig-zag museum of transport where the Kelvin meets the Clyde, and the oldest museum in Scotland at the university. Mackintosh's school south of the river is now a museum of education, and there's a museum of the world's religions beside the cathedral. Spend a wet day hopping between them.
