Victorian pubs and railway-arch taps.

Glasgow's bars are as lively as the city. Stand at the long horseshoe bar of a Victorian pub off Buchanan Street, drink craft beer from dozens of taps in the railway arches, or sip a cocktail in a bar with hundreds of spirits on Miller Street. There's a 1790s townhouse turned bar in the Merchant City, and a lively cocktail bar under Central Station. Pace yourself, and say yes to a song.

Lara Messer, a Glasgow photographer, found a craft chocolate bar in her bag on a train home and went on to start Bare Bones Chocolate.

Lara had just finished a demanding fashion shoot when she found the bar. 'I started eating it and daydreamed about how incredible it would be to make chocolate for a living,' she remembers. She Googled how chocolate is made and phoned her boyfriend, Cameron Dixon, a mechanical engineer. It was 2017 and craft chocolate was a tiny market, so Cameron's engineering background helped. After a year of sourcing and testing single-origin cacao beans they launched in 2018, and their milk chocolate won two stars at the Great Taste Awards within months. The couple have since married in their workshop in the railway arches of Osborne Street, which has a small factory shop selling hot chocolate.
