Dundee
Antarctic decks and the jute mill floor.
Dundee's history is the story of what it made and where it sent its ships. On the waterfront you can walk the decks of the ship built here for Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition of 1901. A courtyard mill of 1833 follows jute from the bale through machines, some still working, and tells of the women who worked them. The Gothic museum in Albert Square hangs the skeleton of the Tay Whale from its ceiling. The Howff, a graveyard given by Mary, Queen of Scots, is crowded with carved stones. North of the city, an Iron Age passage runs underground. Give the ship and the mill a couple of hours each.
You are up to date.
That is everything for today. Tomorrow's first posts go up in the morning. Or have the best of it in your inbox each morning in the Daily.
