Fish suppers on the Largs front.
Largs is the place for a fish supper with a view. On the front, a 1935 art deco café looks over the Clyde, with fish and chips, Italian pastries and a piano at weekends. In the south of Ayr, a gastropub in an ivy-covered house has bold rooms, long wine and cocktail lists and clear domes in the garden. Just outside town, a dairy farm runs a café with afternoon teas and milkshakes. Across the water on Arran, a family-run restaurant at Pirnmill changes its menu every two weeks, and Lochranza's old fire station makes sandwiches to order. Book ahead at Pirnmill, as it's seasonal and popular.
