Inside Uisge Bothy.

Uisge is the first of Inverlonan's bothies, a little timber cabin with a rusty roof perched right on the bank of Loch Nell, near Oban. Inside, the walls are rich green clay, a wood-burning stove keeps it warm, and the bed is up a ladder under the roof. Every window is a picture of the loch. Breakfast comes from the farm, and on your own deck there's an outdoor shower, with a fire pit and a wood-fired pizza oven nearby.

Inver, on the shore of Loch Fyne at Strathlachlan, is first in The Times' new list of Scotland's 75 best restaurants.

Chef Pam Brunton and Rob Latimer run it from an old crofter's cottage on the loch, with bothies and shepherd's huts to stay in beside it.

Oban, the gateway to the isles, and the castles along its bay.

Ferries leave Oban for Mull and the Hebrides, and Dunollie and Dunstaffnage castles guard the coast either side of the town.

Inverlonan, near Oban, is opening a hotel and restaurant in the restored steading at Ballygowan Farm.

Until now Inverlonan has been three off-grid bothies and a wild-dining table in the hills above Loch Nell. Bookings for the steading are open.
