The West of Scotland Highland Cattle Club holds its annual show at Pollok Country Park on Saturday 22 August, at the Riverside field next to the Covid Memorial path. Spectators are welcome from 11am and it is free to watch. Pollok's own fold is the draw for most visitors.
The park's award-winning herd lives across 361 acres on the south side of Glasgow, the only designated country park inside a UK city, and this spring produced more than twenty calves. Dozens of people turned out just to look at the first three newborns back in March. The council also runs a programme of free events at the fold through to 15 October.
Field talks meet at the dog monument on Pollok Avenue, no booking needed, and there are wash days at the cattle yard next to the Children's Fairy Garden, where you can help groom the animals before their show outings. The Burrell Collection sits in the middle of the park too, if the weather turns.
