Isle of Harris Distillery has launched a new signature single malt, called simply Isle of Harris Single Malt Whisky. It joins The Hearach, the distillery's first whisky, and The Oloroso, and it arrives after more than ten years of distilling at Tarbert.
Bourbon and Oloroso casks, lightly peated, put together by the distillery's own blender Shona Macleod. The spirit matures a few miles up the road at Ardhasaig, in warehouses left exposed to whatever the North Atlantic sends. Ron MacEachran, the executive chairman, says the new dram was made with relaxed enjoyment in mind rather than close study.
The Hearach and The Oloroso stay in the range, relabelled and in new gift boxes. Bottles are available at the distillery now, with UK speciality retailers and international markets from August. Tarbert is a small harbour village, and the bottles are going a long way from it.

Kisimul Castle is open again. The Macneil stronghold sits on a rock in Castlebay and getting out to it means a boat from the jetty, which is half the appeal.
