Ardgowan Distillery opened its doors on 20 June 2025, the first new whisky distillery in Inverclyde since the Greenock Blitz destroyed the previous one in May 1941.

Founded in 2017 by Roland Grain and led operationally by Laura Davies, the distillery filled its first casks on opening day, attended by Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes.

Built in the style of a Scandinavian longhouse, with a roof of 97% recycled aluminium, Ardgowan aims to be carbon neutral and to make a single malt aged in sherry-seasoned European oak. A visitor centre is due to launch this summer.
