More than 70 items from the Burray Hoard are now on display at Orkney Museum in Kirkwall, loaned by National Museums Scotland. The hoard was discovered in 1889 and contains nearly two kilograms of silver, including arm rings and pieces of hacksilver (silver cut up to trade by weight), buried around 1000 AD. This is the first time in more than 35 years that the collection has been shown in Orkney. The pieces show the wealth, craft and trade of the Vikings in the Northern Isles.
