At One with the Mountains - An interview with Nick Gardner
Issue 6: Nick Gardner and his wife Janet were living an idyllic life on a croft…

A Munro of 963 metres, number 193 of the 282.
Sgurr Thuilm stands above Glen Finnan, in the hills between Mallaig and Fort William.
Sgurr nan Coireachan, the other Munro above the glen, is about three and a half kilometres to the west, and Gulvain is a little over six kilometres to the east.
Glenfinnan Estate, a working estate of about 9,000 acres owned by the Leith family, lists two Munros on its ground as the Corryhully Horseshoe, with views from the ridge into Knoydart and over to the Inner Hebrides.
By the river below the lodge, the estate keeps Corryhully Bothy for the benefit of walkers, and Glenfinnan is well known in walking circles for it.
West wind to 10 mph, gusting 23
Rain, about 9 mm
Light from 7.55am to 6.18pm, ten hours
A weather model's forecast for the height of the summit, not a report from the hill. Read the mountain forecast the evening before: West Highlands forecast, Northwest Highlands forecast, Sgurr Thuilm, Scottish Avalanche Information Service.

A serious walk, a full day is necessary.Glenfinnan Estate, of its Corryhully Horseshoe
Under snow and ice this is a different day, with short light and the risk of avalanche. It needs an ice axe, crampons, winter boots and the skill to use them.
The summit is optional. Turning back is the right decision whenever the cloud, the wind or the light say so.
