Inverallochy and Whitelinks Bay

Two old fishing villages gable-end to the sea, then the long sands of Whitelinks Bay.

Welcome

Inverallochy and Cairnbulg are two eighteenth-century fishing villages that have grown into one another on the flat coast east of Fraserburgh, their cottages set gable-end to the sea and the washing lines strung out on the grass in front to catch the wind.

A walk of about 6km (3.75 miles) starts from the parking at Cairnbulg harbour and follows the shore through Inverallochy, past a modern sculpture remembering those lost at sea, and past Maggie's Hoosie, the last fisher cottage of its kind, lived in until the 1950s and now a tiny museum.

Beyond the village a track runs between the golf course and the sea, then drops to the wide curve of sand at Whitelinks Bay before looping back behind the links. It is flat and takes about two hours. Fraserburgh is a few miles west for fish and chips afterwards, and the lighthouse museum there is worth the stop.
