Ferrycroft Visitor Centre
A free visitor centre by Loch Shin in Lairg, with displays on water, land and people, a coffee shop, carved gardens, a play area and walks.
On the edge of Lairg, by the shore of Loch Shin, the Ferrycroft Visitor Centre is a friendly, free stop in the middle of Sutherland.
It tells the story of this part of the Highlands in three rooms, called Water, Land and People, with interactive displays and games for children and seasonal exhibitions.
Visitors find it an unexpected pleasure, full of interesting things about the local community, its history and the great peatlands of the north, with helpful staff and a coffee shop for a cup of tea and a cake. There is a gift shop of Highland-inspired things too.
Outside, the gardens are dotted with wood carvings, from a bear to a flock of sheep, and there is a play area with swings, a climbing frame and a zip wire. Two walks start from the centre. Admission and parking are free, and everything is on one level. It opens from Thursday to Monday.

Open Thursday to Monday, 10am to 4pm.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
