Callanish Alpacas
A charity near the Callanish Stones caring for alpacas and more than a hundred and eighty rescued and rare-breed animals, with free entry, tours, a cafe and a shop.
A short way from the Callanish Stones, Callanish Alpacas is a small charity that looks after a whole farmyard of animals, many of them rescued or of rare breeds.
Alpacas are the stars, often wearing bright coats against the island weather, but there are also four-horned sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, turkeys and a peacock who likes to show off his tail.
Entry is free, and a guided tour introduces you to the animals, each of which has a name. Visitors praise how close you can get and how friendly and knowledgeable the owners and staff are. Afterwards there is coffee in the cafe, where you can try an Alpacaccino, seats in an old double-decker bus, and a gift shop of alpaca goods.
The centre opens from Wednesday to Sunday, eleven until two. Donations help pay for the animals' care.

Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 2pm.
Free; donations welcome.
